BROADCAST

HN Telecom Inc. (HN) provides a broad range of telecommunications consulting services to clients in North America and worldwide. Founded in 1959, HN has earned a reputation for excellence in both engineering and project management.

Engineering services can be provided on a turnkey project basis, or at a daily rate for work at our office or at your site.

The following services are available to assist you in the design and construction of broadcast transmitting facilities for both private and government broadcast networks.

Broadcast Transmitting System Design (Top)(Bottom)

  • Preliminary Network Planning

    Network planning typically involves:

    • Defining the population areas to be served
    • Determining centers which will have studios
    • Preliminary selection of transmitting sites based on map studies
    • Review of alternatives for program network feeds
    • Assembly of initial budgetary costs.

  • Site Evaluations

Site evaluations for locating transmitting facilities typically involve both map analyses and field surveys.

    • Map analyses will include initial site selections and coverage evaluations
    • Field surveys are undertaken to confirm the map analyses and document site conditions (access, power availability, etc.). GPS receiver and altimeter are used to confirm site parameters.

The site evaluation report will typically include a general description of the area, site drawings, access description, soil conditions, possible power feed routings and photographs.

  • Feasibility Study

From the information assembled from the preliminary network plan and site evaluation work, an overall evaluation of the alternatives is made. This study involves selecting transmitting sites, evaluating equipment alternatives, developing station configurations, developing the network configuration (if more than one station) and assembling budgetary costs.

  • System Design

Upon approval of the feasibility study, detailed systems engineering is performed for each station in the network. This includes defining (1) tower height and loading (2) antenna types (3) site access (4) equipment housings (5) power feed.

Applications are made for operating frequencies. Construction and layout drawings are prepared and specifications assembled.

  • Tower Analysis

This study determines the structural viability of an existing tower to support larger or additional antennas. The analysis can be based on (1) an in-office review of 'as built' drawings of the tower; or (2) in the absence of adequate drawings, by a field survey. The analysis will determine the capacity of the tower when wind loading, addition of reinforcement, and other factors, are considered. The report will show viability of client plans and alternative choices.

Project Management And Construction (Top)(Bottom)

  • Request for Proposal (RFP) Preparation and Vendor Selection

HN can assist you in writing a separate RFP for each type of equipment or service, which can then be issued to solicit price quotes. HN can further assist you in proposal evaluation, vendor selection and contract award.

  • Project Management

After contract award to vendors, HN can provide project management services to implement the project schedule, cost and performance goals, by providing (1) coordination of procurement and shipping of equipment; (2) supervision of installation of tower and equipment; (3) supervision of construction of site improvements; and (4) testing and commissioning.
